Shizuya Yamashita

Prof. Shizuya Yamashita is President of Rinku General Medical Center, Japan since 2020.
Prof. Yamashita graduated and received his medical degree from the Faculty of Medicine of Osaka University in 1979.
He has dedicated his career as a clinician and researcher of internal medicine and cardiovascular medicine at Osaka University Medical School, Osaka University Graduate School of Medicine, and Osaka University Hospital.
His research interests are lipoprotein metabolism, pathogenesis of atherosclerosis, and clinical practice and molecular biology of metabolic syndrome.
His mentors include Professor-Emeritus Yuji Matsuzawa, who proposed the concept of abdominal fat-derived metabolic syndrome. He also spent for several years in total under Prof. David Hui and Prof. Alan Tall at Cincinnati University and Columbia University, respectively, as a visiting scientist.
While serving for years as a Professor at Osaka University Hospital and Osaka University Graduate School of Medicine, he was also appointed as Director of Rinku General Medical Center in 2015 and President of Rinku General Medical Center in 2020.
He is a member at large of International Atherosclerosis Society (IAS) and an executive committee member of Asian-Pacific Society of Atherosclerosis and Vascular Disease (APSAVD). He is the past President of the Japan Atherosclerosis Society and immediate former chair of IAS Asia-Pacific Federation.
He is the author of many original manuscripts, case reports, reviews and books in English.
